I bought an Arien 46" two years ago and just before my one year warranty expired, the transmission broke. Yes, BROKE!

It is made of plastic. one year later I had similar problems and fou;nd out from the repair folks, the transmission went out again. To replace theplastic transmission costs $750.00. Fortunately the good repair folks called Arien and argued with them about my case so Arien sent them another plastic transmission for free.

I had to pay the labor to install it. Thank you good folks at R&J Equipment for fighting my battle for me! I will never recommend anyone to purchase this mower.

I will never, ever buuy another one. Who in the world thought a plastic transmission was a good idea needs to be fired!

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Monetary Loss: $1600.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Location: Interlachen, Florida

I also had a problem with the general transmission the so called cvt one. Mine went out 2 months after warranty went out.

Little did I know that the transmission has a seperate warranty than the tractor. The tractor started slowing down during use. Finally to the point where it wouldnt move at all in reverse and barely *** in forward. When I first got it it was the fastest mower I had ever seen.

Called the General Transmission home office. I live in Georgia and General Transmission is a french company with an office in Texas. Sounds ok I thought I would send an email explaning my problem. After resending email finally got a response and the rep.

was very helpful but the rep. was french and their emails were in broken english. Well I exchanged emails for a while back and forth. They sent diagrams and some tech sheets which was fine but they have a very complicated transmission to understand even with pictures and I am very mechanical.

So I decided to call their North American number in Texas. I called the number and it was answered by a hispanic speaking person I dont speak spanish and they didnt speak english so they just hung up on me. I tried again with the same results. After some time I tried again and they got me to a very nice bilingual speaking rep.

who after explaining my situation transferred me to the chief engineer. Only problem he was french who spoke english with a heavy french accent which was broken at times and I had a hard time understanding and I am sure he had a hard time understanding me with my heavy southern accent. They were extremly nice and helpful but I finally gave up with an 1800.00 tractor sitting in my yard never to cut again. I dont blame the transmission manufacturer they tried to help but I blame Ariens for their shoddy equipment and the way they just abandon their paying customers.

Oh by the way I bought it at Home Depot and they were no help either. Also Ive noticed HD no longer sell Airens lawn tractors. Just shame on you Ariens you could have done a lot better at no cost to you. But it will cost you in the long run because you wont have the repeat business.

We all know without repeat customers all businesses will fail.

With that said I went and bought a John Deere lawn tractor and it has been awesome and I highly recommend. But never again will I buy knowingly anything Ariens makes.

It's all about making a few extra dollars. 1 year 20 hours total time my 3rd transmission just went out on me.

I baby this lawn tractor and it's never been under a load. Cheap bastards.
