My Ariens 8HP/24 inch snow blower has a inadquate drive train. It was rebuit after only 25 hours and after our first snow, the friction disk is badly worn.

The engine works great and the machine throws snow well. The factory rep didn't even address the issues (after 3 letters). He did say the dealer charged the correct price when I complained about the parts being overly expensive. The drive train parts and a new belt were $240.

I'll NEVER buy another Ariens product again.

My friends have Craftman machines which keep working year after year. I hate my Ariens.

If want quality, you will have to go to Honda. What hurt the most was the factory's total lack of concern.

I have spent more money on the Ariens 920 Series Sno-Thro than it is worth. Three years ago our kids bought it for us for Christmas and I don't have the heart to tell them that we spent over 350 bucks on keeping it running and now with 12 inches of snow on at our door the fuel line is leaking DONE DONE DONE.

I have one and it's a beast, esp. breaking through 5 ft. drifts that Public works covers the driveway with. In a way it's too powerful, winding up a tarp. in a flash...had to have the dealer disassemble the front end to remove the tarp and straighten the impeller....But it worked fine! Ate some firewood too, and still o.k. Love the fact that it blows snow 50'to the back of the back yard.

Just bought an 820 compact...there are issues with it....and I'm a bit pissed...quartz light shines in my eyes, and snow impellers make lot noises when they come on.

I've only had it for an hour, so the Dealer will get it back for adjustments/replacements.

There's always Angie's List. Someday they all will learn that the internet age spreads the word quickly. If you refuse to listen to complaints, you better start filing for closure.

That's what you get for living where it is cold and snows a lot...

I bought my 11528LE a couple years ago. Have replaced a couple belts after the first year - didnt realize the second stage was iced and I wrecked the belt.

My fault. BUT this year I am replacing parts at an unbelievable pace. Speed control rods broke because of poor design (right where they connect to one another) cost of $50 with shipping and I am waiting for three weeks to get them - if they are on time. Today the connecting end of the throttle cable snapped.

Another $35 and another three weeks. So I am dead in the water. If they would make these parts just a little bit heavier duty I am sure things would be fine... but I guess I only spent $1,400...

so what did I think I would get? My father-in-law owned his Ariens for 35 years without a problem. That is why I chose them. Never again.

You would like if the old models performed so well... why change the design? Oh yeah... cheaper to build and a recurring revenue stream.

And I am from Wisconsin... what an embarrassment!

I've an Ariens 8526. Bought it new in 2005 and am on my 3rd impeller belt.

Replacing it this time, however I notice that the idle pulley was installe backward, resulting in the belt being stretch over the lip of the lower pulley. This surely has accounted for the stretched and snapped belts over the years. I feel better about it knowing it's fixed.

Two other gripes--the reverse speeds are too slow. Did Ariens think I'd be blowing snow backward.

Get with it, guys. Also, the chute crank, while durable, is a poor substitute for the Toro or Husq.

remote control. I'd love that feature.

Hope this helps others.

I had a similar story with regard to Ariens. My 1st Ariens with regular maintenance ran and ran and ran. After 20 + years it began to break down, I thought it owed me nothing and figured it was time for new one. I purchased a brand new 8526LE in 2005 and figured another 20 or so years of a dependable smooth running Ariens quality product. How wrong I was.

I spent $1,100.00 at Home Depot; it has costs me on average $250.00 a year to keep it running. New drive belts each year, electric starter shot after 3 years, this week the drive mechanism failed again. Early after my purchase I made repeated calls to the Home Depot, Ariens and Tecumseh complaining about poor quality and lack of customer support.I got nothing from any one.

I will never buy another Ariens product again and never another piece of equipment from Home Depot. I have had the good fortune to steer several relatives away from Ariens and will continue to do so.

As I said to the mechanic fixing my piece of *** for the 2nd time this winter, this machine will be curb side in the spring and up for sale.

Bye Bye Ariens, your products will never to see the inside of my garage again.

I have many snow blowers and a snow thro from Ariens. The quality of parts and construction on the Ariens is second to none.

I have couple of Honda track drives and if you want to turn them in deep snow you will find it nearly impossible. My experience with Ariens has been positive. They have responded to all my questions and suggestions for changes. I don't know why your drive failed in such a short period of time.

I will say these machines have six speeds forward but if the snow is heavy the first or second speed is all that should be used. It is possible to push it to the breaking point and there is no machine that cannot be broken.

Now you see the problem. Honda fixes their problems (an O ring).

My entire drive train fell apart! Yes, I will definitely will go with Honda.
